A quick recap | Top 5 summer reads
W
ith the summer over I figured I could share with you my top stories we cherished during our summer holiday. I had a couple and my son picked some fun stories from our local library. Some took us on a far away adventure and a few made me think about how wonderful it is to have family and friends though out our lives supporting and loving throughout the years.
Below is my book collage for a few of the summer books that we loved to read.
Now the school year has started we are off to a new set of books. Although I loved to keep reading a few books at a time this month I am aiming for two books and plenty of bedtime stories.

Children Books :: Library Picks
This week our trip to the library saved us from a terrible thunder storm. It is great for our plants and gardens but not so great for our play time at the park. Usually, it is a trip to the library followed by a stop at the corner store for an ice pop and then a walk to our favorite park on Madison Ave.
Our little library has been part of little man's life since he was able to sit in a circle and listen to songs, now he is joining book clubs and picking his own children's books.
This weeks children's book selection has no particular theme but I can see the interest from summer school, under the sea lesson plan, is still around with his selection of Puffer Fish. Next we take a trip to the zoo with Mr. Carle famous Chameleon. And finally an adventure with a very smart mouse and a Gruffalo.

About the Author :: Cathy Lamb
I couldn't put the book down. (I bet all Authors aim for that in their readers :) What made me want to keep reading was my feeling of at home in the setting. I love Oregon. Not just because my favorite girl lives there but for the beauty of the country and the people. As a NYer we are use to the quick pace and never a good morning smile to a passer by but in OR its a norm. And I love it, so Ms Lambs books was a nice reminder of how beautiful that part of the country is to live in.
Cathy Lamb is a lovely storyteller. I was engaged in all of the characters and her twist in the plot were very alluring. Who knew I would end up in Israel??? Or be so intrigued by all the smaller characters - those Mob sisters were a HOOT and I just fell in love with her coaching style in her main character. And the scenes from the characters childhood - heartbreaking. Like I said a MUST READ. In my Share a Book rating it is a 5 - Loved it! Can't wait to share with you!!

When I started this book I said to myself, hmmm am I going to like this? Most books are familiar surroundings, situations and customs I find familiar. This book brought me to another place, rich in culture, traditions, scenery, not just the unfamiliar African community but the medical community. Never have I felt like I was right in an operating room or feel the pressure of the doctor trying to turn a baby to the correct position to move down the birth canal. The description of scenes brought me right to the center of room. I almost wanted to wash my hands J to make sure no one was contaminated.
The story of these two brothers, Marion and Shiva take you on a young boy’s journey from childhood to manhood. The struggles, the loss, the joy, the education and self-education, determination and the dancing fever made it a page turner. And it is not only the girls that have heart ache, the excitement of young love and disappointment lead to many different paths in this story.
As I read this book I came across a passage that made me sit back and say YES! As a parent this is a perfect reminder to all, see if you agree as a father explained to his children “… the key to happiness is to own your own slippers, own who you are, own how you look, own your family, own your talents you have and own the ones you don’t….Not only our actions, but also our omissions become our destiny.”
What I found in this book was LOVE & FAMILY no matter what happens a FAMILY will always be together in one way or another, whether apart for days or years.
