A quick recap | Top 5 summer reads

ith the summer over I figured I could share with you my top stories we cherished during our summer holiday. I had a couple and my son picked some fun stories from our local library. Some took us on a far away adventure and a few made me think about how wonderful it is to have family and friends though out our lives supporting and loving throughout the years.

Below is my book collage for a few of the summer books that we loved to read.

Now the school year has started we are off to a new set of books. Although I loved to keep reading a few books at a time this month I am aiming for two books and plenty of bedtime stories.

Children Book :: Driving my Tractor

W
e loved this book. It was perfect after a day at the garden where we picked so many delicious vegetables. The book is bright and colorful which made it very entertaining for my three yr old. But most of all we also love the great music video on iTunes. So for a little entertainment we listen to Steve Songs going around the farm on the tractor.

Children Book Review :: What Dads Can't do By Douglas Wood.

We ended this weekend with a nice book reminding us how great Father's can be. It was a little confusing for my little guy because he said to me "Daddy CAN do that" - hit a ball, eat lot's of cake, play hide and seek.

This book was a nice reminder of all the wonderful things Dad's do for their little ones to make them feel AWESOME.

Not everyday we read our traditional print books. So today we declare WEDNESDAY a Video day. We are watching a video during stroytime and we can't go wrong with Llama Llama. Check out this video with Anna Dewdney reading her New York Times bestseller, Llama Llama Mad at Mama.

I have had one of these days! And I learned that our first stop during our grocery store is the BAKERY. Free cookies for their little shoppers at Waldbaums. (THANK YOU THANK YOU)

Children Book Review :: Because Your Daddy Loves You

This adorable story was fun to read with my son. The story setting was just like one of our weekend days we just had with DAD. I would have to say most all the adventures they shared we mostly had, too. Although, our "drippy ice-cream cone" was an ice pop. Noted by my little guy :)

A nice reminder also to parents to not be in such a RUSH take it easy and be patient and affectionate. Familiar scenes and illustrations are well crafted. 

This is a terrific book for Father's Day. When we finished I have to be honest my little one did ask "Where is Mommy?" so I politely said "She was resting and reading her book" from the mouths of babes.

This book is a nice tribute to all of those DAD's that take the FULL responsibility and run with it. You are our hero's!

Book Review :: Ranting and a lot of laughing for Mama

Let's be honest no one gives us that book that really details the reality of bringing home your first child. Tales from the Pantry by Shari Owen Brown reminds us of what it is like to need that "lock" on the inside of Pantry door and snack on that bag of chips while #whoknowswhat is happening on the other side.

This book was a peek behind the scenes into a life of a mother with two young children. A simple tug at the curtains to see and listen to a mothers plea for sanity at times. No one really wants to pull the blinds all the way open and this book is a funny but yet true look at a mothers sometimes daily life.

I personally agree that there should be a peak into this life before you head down that road of motherhood. Be fully warned but PLEASE take the path it is SO worth the sleepless nights, tantrums, dirty diapers, endless crying and that unbelievable smile from your child that takes you to a place you can't describe.

I personally didn't mind all the ranting and love the twitter references #thetruthhurts and don't get me started on agreeing about the FRENCH FRIES #whatisupwiththat!

And please please send me the directions to the PARENT only park! I will be the one with the Pinot Noir Sippy cup :)
